For most of the population, especially over the past decade, sitting has become the most common waking activity, with a large percentage sitting for up to eight hours or more a day. Between office jobs and Netflix binge-watching, lifestyles have become more and more sedentary. Recently, this lifestyle has been researched and many studies have looked into the health consequences of this sedentariness. The results? According to an article in the New York Times "studies have found that the more hours that people spend sitting, the more likely they are to develop diabetes, heart disease and other conditions, and potentially to die prematurely". Additionally, studies have found that sitting less and standing more - even if standing still- has the potential to slow the aging process within cells.

So what's the best solution for those confined to their desks Monday through Friday? Aside from choosing ergonomic seating with proper support, such as the Incentive task chair, one could also look for ways to utilize their chair for daily exercises through simple yoga poses that require little effort. Taking just a few minutes out of your day to move your body can help you not just better your health, but recharge in an afternoon slump. Check out the video below for the easy exercise;  no yoga experience required! Also be sure to visit Outcome Seating at Neocon this June 13-16th (Showroom 7-3105) to meet our personal yoga guru and instructor Rich Logan who can offer more expertise on the benefits of yoga, even in your chair.
